Indian Hollow Group Campground sits on the river plain below Knightville Dam, beside the East Branch of the Westfield River, an area recognized for its scenic qualities and a strong focus on wildlife and outdoor recreation. Open fields along the river burst with wildflowers in summer and attract songbirds and butterflies, and visitors often spot deer, coyotes, beavers, grouse, turkeys and waterfowl while hiking the local trails. Anglers come for fly-fishing on the Little and Westfield rivers brown, brook and rainbow trout are stocked by the state, with stockings in spring and fall and the surrounding hills are managed for upland game, including pheasants stocked for the fall season; hunting and fishing are permitted where posted and according to Massachusetts law. Several trail options radiate from the campground: the 2-mile Claude M. Hill Horse Trail connects to the dam area for horseback riding and non-motorized use, the 6-mile East Branch Trail follows the river toward Chesterfield Gorge (about four miles upstream), and a network of old country roads and singletrack supports hiking, mountain biking and, in winter, snowmobiling. Park Rangers also run interpretive and environmental education programs about the area's cultural and water resources, water safety and flood control. Indian Hollow is set up specifically for organized groups schools, scout troops and civic clubs and operates as a reservation campground; space is very limited, with just two campsites on the property, and both sites are listed for use by RVs and tents. Basic comfort facilities include flush toilets, showers and drinking water, and the campground supports activities such as environmental education, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The physical campground address is 200 Indian Hollow Rd, Chesterfield, MA; the dam office at 49 Knightville Dam Road in Huntington handles key pick-up and drop-off. Because reservations and seasonal policies can change, and availability is constrained by the small site count, callers should contact the park for current details and any fees or access requirements (413) 667-3430 before planning a visit.
