What guests say

“Space was away from others but near bathroom. The picnic table and fire pit need upgrading ”

Susan C 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Beautiful location! The hosts and managers were great and hospitable. There was some sort of animal ruffling through our campsite at night, but we didn't get a glimpse of what it was. ”

About

Lake Rabun Beach Recreation Area sits on the wooded shore of Lake Rabun in the North Georgia Mountains, easily reached by following U.S. 441/Historic 441 south from Clayton and then a short drive on Lake Rabun Road; if you're towing a trailer, the park recommends a lower-grade approach via Hwy 76 and Burton Dam Road. The developed campground contains 75 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, arranged in two loops 43 sites in Loop 1 and 32 in Loop 2 plus a single group campsite that comprises five individual sites. Twenty-one of the sites have electrical hookups and a majority include water; each site is equipped with a picnic table, grill and lantern post. Facilities include restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, a boat ramp and an on-site camp host, and firewood is available for purchase on location. Recreation centers on the lake and a nearby waterfall hike. A swim area adjacent to the campground has a roped-off swimming section, two picnic tables and nearby restrooms, and a boat launch and fishing pier sit close by; Lake Rabun supports bass, bream, perch, trout and catfish (check Georgia state fishing regulations before you fish). At the back of the campground you'll find the Angel Falls/Panther Falls trailhead for a 1.7-mile out-and-back hike, and the broader Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest offers biking, horseback and off-highway vehicle riding, wildlife viewing, additional hiking, picnicking, and visitor-center services as well as access to regional attractions such as Anna Ruby Falls, Brasstown Bald, Minnehaha and Panther Creek Falls, Tallulah Gorge State Park, and whitewater rafting on the Chattooga River. Fees, reservation policies and seasonal opening dates are managed by the Forest Service (and often handled through recreation.gov), so check current availability and any specific access requirements before you go.
