Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is a Florida State Parks campground in Micanopy, about 25 miles from Ocala. It lists 30 RV or RV/tent sites and 10 tent sites for rigs up to 58 ft (official limit). Florida State Parks lists water and electric, mostly 30-amp with a few 50-amp sites; dump station.
Facility Important Information
The park gates close at sunset. If you plan to arrive late, please contact the park prior to 5 p.m. on the day of your arrival.No collecting of firewood.
Camping gear must be placed in designated areas only.
No hanging nor tying of anything on vegetation.
All sites have a picnic table and ground grill.

Pets are not allowed in any state park cabins or cabin areas.
Service animals are welcome in all areas of the park where visitors are normally allowed. >If you intend on using a tent then you will need to select a site with a tent pad, or drive a tent stake through Lime Stone.
Campsites 19 thru 33 are walk in tent camping only sites. Vehicles must be left in the parking area and all items carried in and out of the campsite (up to 250 feet from parking area).
No one younger than 18 may camp overnight unless accompanied by a responsible adult, who will remain onsite for the period rented.

Welcome to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. Far from the Far West, herds of wild horses and bison roam the prairie in this surprisingly diverse preserve south of Gainesville. Paynes Prairie is unique in many ways. Nowhere else in Florida can visitors experience wild-roaming bison and horses. Nearly 300 species of birds also frequent the park along with alligators, deer and many other animals. The park’s eight trails, including the 16-mile paved Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail , allow one to explore the park’s interior and observe wildlife, while a 50-foot high observation tower provides for panoramic views. Fishing and canoeing on Lake Wauburg are popular along with a shaded campground. During a visit to Paynes Prairie, one can easily understand why Seminole Indians once occupied a village along this vast savannah.
