“Beautiful & peaceful with tall tall trees.”
“Good: Sites are nice. There is a lot of variety and the campground seems relatively well spread out. The river was cold but refreshing and beautiful. Bad: we heard gunshots very close by on multiple occasions which was unnerving. ”
“There are no hiking trails from this campground. Host does not enforce leash requirement for dogs.”

ELDORADO
Open in Google Maps ↗
Pipi Campground (pronounced "pie pie") sits at about 4,100 feet in the central Sierra Nevada portion of Eldorado National Forest, where dense stands of cedar and fir shade campsites along the Middle Fork of the Cosumnes River. The campground contains 32 sites in three loops: 22 sites designed for both RVs and tents, and 10 tent-only sites. Most parking aprons are paved with a few gravel spots; single sites accommodate up to two vehicles and six people. Practical amenities are straightforward drinking water and vault toilets are provided, a spacious picnic area runs along the river, and paved aprons and a paved river walkway (just under a mile long) make parts of the site easier to navigate. Interpretive programs run in peak season, and the Mediterranean-patterned climate here brings warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters, so plan clothing and timing accordingly. The Cosumnes River is the campground's main draw: rainbow trout are regularly stocked and the paved river walkway includes wheelchair-accessible fishing spots, while shallow stretches invite swimming on warmer days. Pipi is reachable from Highway 88 about 26 miles east of Jackson, then a short drive north into the forest near Omo Ranch it feels removed from busy highways but is still an accessible stop for Sierra travelers. There are recreation fees for overnight camping and other services; reservation fees apply when you book (currently $8 online, $9 via the call center, $3 in person) and a $10 service fee is withheld from any refunded cancellation. A change fee may be charged for modifications, and reservations typically have a cut-off window about four days before arrival cancellations made the day before or the day of arrival incur the $10 fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee.
